Allotted Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Ministry Context

LIFE Recovery Association is a Christian not-for-profit society and a registered charity established to support women to overcome their substance addiction  The person called to this ministry must be in agreement with LIFE Recovery's confession of faith, mission, vision and core values and must have a passion for this ministry to disciple women.  The person must agree with our Code of Conduct/Ethics, Community Standards and live a life consistent with these.

 

Job Summary - primary focus

The Executive Director is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors and reports to and works under the direction of the Board. In this role, the Executive Director is responsible for implementing the strategic and operational plans that reflect the vision and mission of LIFE Recovery. This involves the development and management of programs, services, operations, communication, and fundraising. This also involves the ability to provide leadership to staff and volunteers of the women’s residential recovery homes and thrift store, encouraging a collaborative team-based environment. Key to this position is the ability to build enduring relationships with existing donors and engage new donors in LIFE Recovery’s vision.

 

Specific responsibilities

  • Acts as the official spokesperson for the organization.

  • Proficient in a systematic and sensitive approach in regular contact with donors and potential donors.

  • Pursues funding opportunities and is skilled in writing grant applications

  • Establishes and maintains open, timely and appropriate communication and relationships with diverse constituencies within and external to LIFE Recovery

  • Provides organizational leadership and coordination, and ensures staff and resources are in place and operating efficiently.  

  • Develops and advises on the annual operating plans and budgets for approval by the Board of Directors and follows up with day-to-day details of operations.

  • Oversees the completion of updating and implementation of policies and procedures.  

  • Ensures that programs and services are in place and delivered in accordance with LIFE Recovery’s mandate and operating plan. 

  • Oversees the operation of the Thrift Store together with the Thrift Store Manager. 

  • Ensures timely and appropriate reporting and presentation to the Board of Directors. 

  • Involved in hiring of all staff and oversees the human resource management of the organization, including overseeing annual staff evaluations. 

  • Participates with the board in its strategic planning process. 

  • Participates in planning with staff, the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of program activities. 


 

Statement of Relationships

The Executive Director works under the authority of the elected Board of Directors and reports to the Board. This person works collegially with the Board to provide the vision and input into the strategic direction of the ministry.

Time Allocation of Responsibilities

The following allocation of time is envisaged in this position as follows: 

  1. Marketing/Fundraising 50% 

  2. Recovery House/operational matters 20% 

  3. Staff Meetings/HR functions 10% 

  4. Board meetings/ Strategic matters 5% 

  5. Thrift Store/Volunteer matters 5% 

  6. Administrative/Financial matters 10%

Qualifications & Experience 

  • A degree (Masters preferred) in administration, humanities or social sciences from a recognized, fully accredited university or equivalent training and experience. Alternatively, significant experience leading a similar ministry would be required. Experience working within a Recovery program would be an asset. 

  • Demonstrated organizational leadership skills and management experience 

  • Competent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. This includes proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online social networking technologies (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) for effective communication and budget planning and controlling.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential material and situations 

  • Skilled in personnel management 

  • Willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed, e.g., for special events, speaking at churches, recovery house emergencies, etc. 

  • Demonstrated ability to speak with large and small groups of all ages 

  • Agrees with LIFE Recovery’s confession of faith, code of conduct and Community Standards 

  • Lives a lifestyle that honours and uplifts the name of Christ 

  • Further, the incumbent must regularly attend and participate in their home church (Heb 10:24-25).
